Solstice Dye Class: Capturing the Colors of Summer

  • Cambridge Naturals 92 Guest Street Brighton, MA, 02135 United States (map)

Come join us as we tune into the medicine of summer solstice, and learn how to infuse color onto cloth. This afternoon natural dye workshop with Maggie Ruth Haaland will teach an introduction to natural dyeing, including the mordanting process, harvesting local plants for color, and natural dye as self care and ritual. We will drink a seasonal tea, and share reflections on our experiences, and then get our hands in the dye pot and begin eco-printing. Each participant will leave with an eco-printed organic cotton bandana, and folks are also welcome to bring one small item from home to be dyed during class in a collective dye pot. A slow, creative time together as we bask in the beauty and aliveness of mid-summer.

Maggie Ruth Haaland (she/they) is a queer natural dyer, herbalist, writer, and footbath devotee living in JP. She has studied plant medicine for ten years and has over the past few years fallen in love with the intersection of fiber and herbal medicine. Their values are rooted in softness, community, and care and they regularly facilitate natural dye workshops and introductory plant walks to help folks connect with themselves, their creativity, and the land around them. Maggie also vends her naturally dyed bandanas and herbal creations at various markets in the Boston area. Some of her teachers include Tony Lemos, Steph Zabel, and Bryonie Wise.
